Creating Trend Graphs

For an overview, watch the video below. For details, consult the following written information.

Creating a Trend Line Graph

Access the Trend Graph Creation Area

Go to Trends , then select Add New Trend.

Add Points

  1. Select Add Point, which opens the Add points to __ window.

  2. Locate and select the point that you want to display trend data from.

Note: Selecting a device from the Device list (left) narrows the Point Selector list (right) to show only the points in that device.

Note: You can filter both lists by typing in Search Devices. You can also filter the Point Selector list by typing in Search Points.

Note: Below a device name, the information in gray text is the device type, as set in the device's profile (see Editing a Device Profile). Below a point name, the information in gray text is [parent device name]:[point ID].

Note: As devices and points are filtered, the number of displayed devices or points out of the total (matching that criteria) is given at the bottom of each list.

Note: To display more devices or points in a list, select Load More Devices or Load More Points (at the bottom of each list).

  3. Repeat step 2 for as many points as you want to add.

  4. Select Add.

  5. Select Save.

Set a View Mode

  1. From the option buttons in the upper-right corner, choose the view mode (Day, Week, Month, Year, ...) that you want to become the Default for this trend graph.

Note: Select the ... (meaning more) to reveal a drop-down menu of more options.

  2. Select Save.

Set a Binning (Averaging) Interval

Binning reduces noise by grouping raw data points into sets (bins) based on a time interval, averaging the mean value of each data bin, then presenting the averages (mean values) on the graph. Binning takes into consideration all data points, but reduces the amount of data points presented to help the viewer make a higher-level interpretation.

See Use Cases for examples of effective uses of binning.

To set the binning interval for the trend graph:

  1. Choose an interval from the Binning Interval drop-down menu that is suitable for what needs to be presented.

Note: Raw Data means no binning interval will be applied. The graph will present all data points.

  2. Select Save.

Set a Chart Type

  1. From the Chart Type drop-down menu, select one of these options:

    • Line: displays a line graph only

    • Line With Range: displays a shaded minimum and maximum value range behind a line graph

    • Range: displays a minimum and maximum value range only

Note: Line With Range and Range only apply to binned data. (See Creating Trend Graphs.)

  2. Select Save.

Name the Trend Graph

  1. Replace "New Trend Graph" with a name for the trend graph.

  2. Select Save.
