Viewing Trends
For an overview of this topic, watch the video below (until the 1:42 mark). For details, consult the following written information.
Viewing Information About a Trend
Go to Trends , then select the chevron next to the name of a saved trend on the left pane.
Information expands below the trend's name about:
-
the saved (default) View Mode (see Choosing a View Mode)
-
the saved Binning Interval (see Choosing a View Mode)
-
the saved Chart Type (see Choosing a Chart Type)
-
the saved Points (see Add Points in Creating Trend Graphs)
Note: Selecting the chevron next to the trend's name will expand the trend's information only. Selecting the trend's name will also open the trend's graph on the right pane.
Viewing a Trend Graph
Accessing the Trend Graph
Go to Trends, then select the name of a saved trend on the left pane, which opens the trend graph in the right pane.
Note: Selecting the chevron next to the name expands the information about the trend only.
Choosing a View Mode
-
From the option buttons in the upper-right corner, chose the timeframe of data that you want to view.
Note: Select the ... (meaning more) to reveal a drop-down menu of more options.
Note: Default is the timeframe that was saved when creating the trend graph. (See Set a View Mode in Creating Trend Graphs.)
-
Use the < (left arrow) and > (right arrow) to move the timeframe backward and forward through the available data history.
Choosing a Binning (Averaging) Interval
Binning reduces noise by grouping raw data points into sets (bins) based on a time interval, averaging the mean value of each data bin, then presenting the averages (mean values) on the graph. Binning takes into consideration all data points, but reduces the amount of data points presented to help the viewer make a higher-level interpretation.
See Use Cases for examples of effective uses of binning.
Choose an interval from the Binning Interval drop-down menu that is suitable for what you want to see presented.
Note: Raw Data means no binning interval will be applied. The graph will present all data points.
Choosing a Chart Type
From the Chart Type drop-down menu, select one of these options:
-
Line: displays a line graph only
-
Line With Range: displays a shaded minimum and maximum value range behind a line graph
-
Range: displays a minimum and maximum value range only
Note: Line With Range and Range only apply to binned data. (See Choosing a Binning (Averaging) Interval.)
Viewing Information About a Precise Point
To view information about a precise point on the graph, hover over that point, which makes a box with detailed information appear.
Zooming In on a Trend Graph
To zoom in on a section of the trend graph, adjust the sliders at the bottom of the graph.
Note: Select Default to go back to the original timeframe, or choose an alternate timeframe. (See Choosing a View Mode.)
Refreshing a Trend Graph
A loaded trend in Trends or Dashboards does not automatically refresh its data. After sufficient time has passed for an update, try one or more of the following actions:
-
Select Reload from the trend graph window.
-
Select a view mode.
-
Select the back and forward arrows (at the top next to the date of the timeframe).
-
Reselect the trend from the list of saved trends on the left pane.
-
Refresh your browser.
Hiding and Showing Trend Lines
-
With a trend graph open on the right pane in Trends (see Viewing a Trend Graph), select Show Graph Points.
-
Select the Eye icon in the point slot matching the color of the trend line that you want to hide/show.
